Subject: 2x2x2x2 blindfold solve!

Hey everyone!

I’m continuing my trend of the last few years and playing around with hypercubes every once in a long while. Yesterday, I finally solved the 2^4 in blindfolded mode!

I attempted this a few times several years ago, and I think the closest I got was off by 2 twisted corners. I didn’t practise much beforehand, so I was surprised to get a success on the second attempt. It’s not a great time, but I just wanted to go safe and get a success. The time was 23:16 [10:12], I worked that out from the video since I actually forgot to stop the timer until after I stopped recording. The solve had 16 targets, and I had to fix the buffer at the end since of course it’s possible to twist one corner in isolation in 4D. I’ve uploaded the log file to my folder here for anyone interested in looking through the solve.

This isn’t the first blind solve of the 2^4. Nan Ma did it first I think (please correct me if I forgot someone!), and I don’t recall anyone else doing it since. However, I think it is the first no-macro blind solve. I intend to do the 3^4 blind eventually, but not in the near future.

This version of MC4D was made by Mathologer (, it makes it easy to grey out the stickers during execution.

Also, I’m learning Java gradually in my spare time, and I’m planning to make my own version of MC4D eventually with a few changes including keyboard controls, since clicking can be unreliable and slow as you can see in the video. It seems like a fun project to really get to grips with the language, though I’ll do a couple of smaller things with it first rather than jumping right into the deep end.

I’d definitely like to see more people trying this out, it’s a fun challenge!
