I explain the numbers in the comments on the code.

Imagine opening up the solved puzzle vertically
so that you obtain a 8x2 array of squares. The
stickers that part of the diamonds in the middle
shall be referred to as the ‘in’ stickers, while
the sticker on the long edges are the ‘out’ stickers.
Each piece has an ‘in’ and ‘out’ sticker.

The letters denote the colours of the target
piece:

w = white, y = yellow,
r = red, o = orange,
b = blue, g = green,
v = violet(purple), m = magenta(pink)

The numbers show how the piece is oriented.
The digits refer back to the letter string,
counting from zero, with the first digit
indicating the ‘in’ sticker while the second
tells the ‘out’ sticker. In the piece
description above, the w sticker is in while
the b sticker is out.
